ANTI-DRUG PROJECT

Maboshe Memorial Centre (MMC) has initiated anti-drug project targeting young people aged 18-30, with the goal of raising awareness, counseling information, rehabilitating an integrated and referral service in schools/institutions and communities about alcohol and drug abuse usage with a strong emphasis on prevention, we fight myths, misconceptions, beliefs that society has placed on illicit drugs or of the repercussions of drug and alcohol abuse. Maboshe Memorial Centre (MMC) want to see my generation free its own generation from drug abuse.

Maboshe Memorial Centre (MMC) work together with various stakeholders including, government departments, Drug Enforcement Commission, local authority, health experts, community volunteers, community leaders and drugs agencies to change this situation, which affects numerous young people in Zambia. Without jobs or a sense of perspective in life, substance abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS, crime and domestic violence are often the consequences.

We have realised that drug and substance abuse has been a major setback to our future leaders, hence our main focus on youth.

Drug abuse had been linked to domestic violence, physical and emotional abuse, suicide cases as well as the high crime rate in the country. Such cases as unemployment, boredom, and peer pressure, he added, have been major causes of the scourge.

Alcohol and drug dependence treatment involves counseling with or without medical treatment and sometimes requires detoxification, during which the addict is observed under medical care as an in-patient in order to effectively manage withdrawal symptoms.
